Dear Fellow Christians:

For about three weeks now, violence has been spreading along the east coast of India in the State of Orissa. No one knows accurately the extent of the damage, but more than 100 Christians have been killed and 27 churches burned and perhaps 600 homes of Christians burned.

The evil people perpetrating these crimes are Hindu gangs of terrorists influenced by the Maoists, a group that uses religion and politics of fear to get their way and intimidate people.

These crimes are not the responsibility of most of the peace loving Hindus---we have many Hindu friends who are kind and hospitable---and they do not approve of such stuff either.

But the violence against Christians is growing through the agitation of these self-serving criminals.

They use the death of a Hindu Swami a few weeks back as the excuse for waging war against the CHristians. At the time, the CHristian community condemned the death of the Swami and treated his death as the tragedy it was. But the radicals are not interested in justice or peace---they just wanted to occasion to serve as a "cause" they could use in their accusations and violence. It is thought by many that they themselves killed the Swami--but all that is still an open question.

The authorities down play the violence and ignore it when they can. Orissa has a long history of violence toward Christians, though the Christian community has a record of peace and positive contribution toward the people of Orissa.

There are four things you can do:

1. Pray.

2. Give this crisis a lot of publicity--call the attention of the media, your friends, the people at work, our government, etc. to this crisis. Violence does not do well when the light is shined on it--evil loves darkness and ignorance.

3. Do you know some Indians---talk to them about this problem and make sure they are aware of the violence and the concern of Christians around the world. Most Hindu people are peacful and certainly the ones you talk with are not responsibile for the violence in India--do be careful not to make blanket judgments about the Indian people!

4. Contact the Indian government---people who can take action in Orissa---you could start with the Indian Ambassador to the US.

5. Start getting yourself educated about the problems in India. You can begin by reading today's article at

http://www.doulosinternational.org/custom118.html

It's time for Christians every where to pay attention. Not to do so will intensify the problems---and who knows--help pave the way for such violence to happen in our country as well.

May God bless all who love and serve him--and those who abhor such crimes and violence whatever their race or religion.

In Christ, Robert Barkley, http://www.doulosinternational.org

I have taken notice of this on the news once. I was wondering what was going on now but the news has not been reporting on this.

I think any excuse to do away with Christians is better than none at all...To Some!

Passage Revelation 6:10:

10And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
